«Paul Horn-Arena», Tübingen, Germany: The venue for optimal solar performance.
In the shape of the “Paul Horn Arena” in Tübingen, the global trend towards integrating photovoltaic systems into architecture has reached a pinnacle. Especially successful is the combination of aesthetical and functional aspects on the southwest façade. Thanks to the emerald-green Sunways Solar Cells specially manufactured for the project, the photovoltaic façade integrates perfectly into the overall architectural concept of the building and is a benefit not only to participants in professional and mass sports, but also to the environment.
An authentic world record: the southwest façade of the “Paul Horn Arena” is the world’s largest photovoltaic façade using coloured solar cells and not only represents optimal performance from an aesthetical perspective. The 20,000 plus integrated Sunways Solar Cells, each with a 2-Watt output, enable the PV system to generate the average energy consumption of seven households. Consequently, the profit from the solar energy produced by the ventilated PV façade helps offset part of the building operating costs.
Maximum output thanks to state-of-the-art PV technology from Sunways: on a façade area of 520 m², more than 20,000 Sunways Solar Cells achieve approximately 43.7 kW of output and generate around 30,000 kWh of green electricity on an annual basis!
